"Nothing grows you like being abroad, especially if you travel independently. I learned so much about my self and how to adapt to and embrace other cultures that I never could have in the classroom. For anyone trying to master a second language, studying abroad is essential. Communication is key to survival (especially for an extrovert like myself) so the more effort I put in to learning the language the better my experience and relationships where while abroad.
Service-Learning provides hands-on experience for students who are ready to apply what they've learned in the classroom and build on that foundation through real-life experience in their future career field. Getting to use my knowledge in Nutrition to impact the lives of children in Chile only further confirmed my career choice while teaching me so much in the process. If you choose to do a Service-Learning program, be prepared to learn A LOT while your abroad so that you can serve better in the future. "
